but oh, you kids these days with your linear dungeon design. back in my day, in order to get to school we had to climb up a 90° incline covered in goo that inflicts leaden!

Named after a man-eating creature from Padjali folklore, the Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak was built on the site of a natural cave system beneath Silent Arbor. Until recently, it held all of Gridania's foulest criminals, from arsonists to poachers, but the completion of a new gaol closer to the city heralded its abandonment.

Not only did they nerf the heck out of the Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak, removing all the gimmicks and slime, but now it's actually a really pretty little dungeon.
The Unending Journey still shows Lahabrea's meeting and speech intact at the final boss, but when I re-enabled cutscenes, it only showed me Graffias leaping down, no Lahabrea. I may have to NG+ this to see how that got shuffled in.

I don't know anything abt the WOL or ffxiv but all I can think of rn is the WOL emerging from like a cave dungeon after a few days in eos but like. They don't realize it for a while. "does the outside look different? I've been in this cave for so damn long. Could've just remembered wrong." "Was town always in that direction? Weird, but maybe I exited from a different entrance? Caves, man" "the city of what now"
"Why is it always the Maws of Toto-Rak?" Tristan demands as he squints at the sun for the first time in days, "Why is it always poison? And bats! I hate bats! And do not get me started on the fucking Puddings! Why do people keep sending me into the Maws I hate it!" Turning to the carbuncle that followed silently at this heels Tristan continued. "You agree with me, right Rose?"
The Ruby Carbuncle chittered in reponse, a noise that could mean yes Dad the Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak are horrible or Dad we are lost. Look around you this isn't the Black Shroud anymore.
Tristan blinked at her.
Rose blinked back.
Tristan looked around the wood and then looked back at the cave.
The cave was gone.
Tristan cursed. "Okay," he decides, "Okay, this is nothing to worry about, we are probably in another illusion that someone put up to fuck with us. Nothing to worry about. We'll just play along and then stab whoever shows up."
A flicker of flame dances on the edge of Rose's tails at her summoners words.
"Exactly." Tristan nods. "We can set them on fire too."

I took Thyn'a through old Totorak before the patch so I would have some memories. I've run this dungeon for 8 years. It's a little bittersweet to know I'll never see it as it was again, but I like the new version much more.

So far the only dungeons I liked were Sastasha and Tam-Tara Deepcroft. 2 out of 4 not looking good but Haukke Manor looks fun and I've yet to try Halatali

Unused Images
Grey and Red scale images of the Unsundered--plus the original Ascian Prime--I wanted to use on the Febhyurary prompt "Monochrome" but couldn't get it to work "right". Especially since the filter I used is really weird sometimes about what it considers "red" and catches, or not, in cutscenes, and I haven't got the photoshop skills or tools to fix it. I could find them--they're out there--but wasn't quite bothered enough for a daily prompt. Mixing and matching lighting and gpose options also had an effect on some images, as well as the limited tools I do have for photo editing.
Still, I think these turned out neat, and these grumpy old folks deserve some time. Images are from the WoL's first official meetings with each Unsundered--and their last.
